Directing credits include original plays: The First Bedroom, Turtle Tears, Uncle Sam’s Umbrella, Forever the Oldest, and Myth of Plastic Moon. Original musical productions/developmental workshops: Insomnia, Pablo, I Feel a Song Comin’ On, She Writes the Songs, Mates, Schmaltz (Iris Dart/Mike Stoller/Artie Butler), and Stormy Weather. Other directing credits include Driving Miss Daisy, A Wonderful Life, The Last Night at Ballyhoo, Beau Jest, Come Back Little Sheba (seven Dramalogue Awards), Forget Herostratus!, Orpheus (Cocteau), Angry Housewives, Sweeney Todd, and The Roar of the Greasepaint… (three Dramalogue Awards).
In tandem with her directing career, Ms. Bergman is currently writing Ancient City, a new musical with music and lyrics by Parrish & Toppano, and serving as Dramaturgical Consultant on several other projects in development in New York and Los Angeles. She teaches acting, writers’ labs, and leads professional skills workshops across the country. Ms. Bergman is the former Artistic Director of Broadway On Sunset and cofounder of the West Coast Musical Theatre Conference. She has appeared as guest speaker for several educational theatre conferences and served on the SSDC LA Advisory Board. Before moving to New York City, she was named Outstanding Woman In Theatre in Los Angeles. She has studied acting, dance, and voice at Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy, American National Academy of Performing Arts, and Southern California Conservatory of Music. She holds a BFA in Theatre Studies/Directing from Boston University and an MFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University where she was honored as the Steven Bochco Scholar.
