Barbara Adrian is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Marymount Manhattan College teaching voice, speech, and movement for actors. She also freelances as a coach for productions in the New York and the Tri-State area.
Her credits include: The Father (dir. Robert Brustein, starring Christopher Lloyd); Orestes (dir. Tina Landau); Major Barbara (American Repertory Theatre, dir. Michael Engler, starring Cherry Jones); Those the River Keeps (written and directed by David Rabe, starring Annabella Sciorra), The Golem (dir. Elizabeth Swados). As the resident voice/speech coach for the New York Classical Theatre, Ms. Adrian has coached: The Recruiting Officer, Comedy of Errors, All’s Well That Ends Well, Scapin, As You Like It, The Feigned Courtesans, The Winter’s Tale, The Triumph of Love, andMuch Ado About Nothing.
Ms. Adrian has presented workshops in voice, speech, and movement training for The Association of Theatre Movement Educators (Chicago 2006) and for the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (Glasgow, Scotland 2005.) She also taught workshops during the Laban Intensive in Berlin, Germany (2002). Ms. Adrian holds an MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College and a certificate in Laban Movement Analysis from the Laban Institute of Movement Studies in NYC. She is also the author of the book chapter An Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis for the Actor: A Historical, Theoretical, and Practical Perspective published in Movement for Actors, edit. Nicole Potter, Allworth Press, 2002 and is a contributor to the monograph Teaching Breathing: The Results of a Survey edit. Ruth Rootberg, Amherst, 2002. Prior to devoting herself to teaching and coaching, Ms. Adrian was a professional actress for many years.
