Donald S. Connery is an author and independent journalist who has traveled the world as a reporter, writer, foreign correspondent and broadcaster for Armed Forces Radio Service, United Press International and, principally, for Time and Life magazines. As a Cold War reporter who covered civil wars and revolutions in Asia, Africa and Europe, his signature experience was reporting the Cuban Missile Crisis from Moscow in 1962 for NBC as well as Time Inc. He first learned about Dr. Spiegel’s work in 1976 while reporting Connecticut’s famous Peter Reilly murder case for his book Guilty Until Proven Innocent. The psychiatrist’s discoveries about hypnosis were critical to understanding the suspect’s false confession and reversing the wrongful conviction. Fascinated, Connery attended Dr. Spiegel’s courses at Columbia, accompanied him on lecture tours and did extensive research and interviewing before writing The Inner Source. He has since become deeply involved in the criminal justice system, writing Convicting the Innocent, exposing unjust imprisonments based on false confessions, and serving on the advisory boards of organizations working to correct wrongful convictions. He lives in Kent, Connecticut.
