The Medium, the Mystic, and the Physicist
by Lawrence LeShan
Part of the groundswell in the exploration of consciousness in the 1960s and 1970s, this classic book relates field theory to altered states of consciousness and compares the close similarities in the world views of mediums, mystics, and physicists. Renowned psychologist and author Lawrence LeShan brought scientific method to bear in his study of “facts that do not fit,” such as clairvoyance and precognition. This exploration shook his belief in everyday reality and led him to postulate other states of consciousness that he called “Clairvoyant Reality” and “Transpsychic Reality.”
These other realities operated on their own laws, which allowed not only clairvoyance (as documented by LeShan’s work with the famous medium Eleanor Garret) but also knowledge of future events and the ability to heal even at great distances. Included as an appendix is LeShan’s essay on “Human Survival on Biological Death,” in which the issues surrounding life after death are given a new context and a fresh perspective. This surprising volume remains of great interest to the many people today who seek to understand the full human potential in a world where everyday reality merely offers a starting place from which to journey. |

Reviews
"Amazing!"
—Newsweek
"This is altogether an invigorating and remarkable work."
—Journal for the Society of Psychical Research
"The book is a major contribution to parapsychology, yet can be understood without prior knowledge of this field. Many students of religious mysticism will want to read it even if they have no prior interest in parapsychology."
