Lisa Mulcahy is a Manhattan-based multimedia writer whose extensive experience and background in theater informs her book BUILDING THE SUCCESSFUL THEATER COMPANY.
Lisa is an honors graduate of Brandeis University, with a degree in theater arts. While at Brandeis, she was chosen for special dramatic study with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright/visiting professor Edward Albee, an experience she found illuminating and inspirational. Lisa also acted in the play MALCOLM, written and directed by Mr. Albee.
Lisa has worked extensively as an actress/singer in both Boston and New York City. Her theater work experience includes stints at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA; the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston; and the John Houseman in New York.
Lisa co-wrote the comic musical RENEGADE SLUTS ON BIKES, and directed its world premiere. She then directed a long and wildly successful run of the show at the Provincetown Repertory Theatre of Boston. Following its Boston run, RENEGADE SLUTS ON BIKES went on to smash productions at San Diego Repertory Theatre's Lyceum and the world-famous Improv comedy club. Lisa then directed and co-produced the highly successful Off-Off-Broadway debut of the show. She then directed the triumphant 1995 Off-Broadway production of RENEGADE SLUTS ON BIKES at the esteemed Ensemble Studio Theatre. Lisa has also staged big hit productions of the musical Off-Broadway at The Directors Company and Musical Theater Works.
Lisa writes regularly for many national magazines and publications.
Her work appears in MARIE CLAIRE, GLAMOUR, SEVENTEEN, and THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, to mention just a few. Lisa also writes frequently about theater in industry publications like STAGE DIRECTIONS and TEACHING THEATRE. Lisa's syndicated column TRIVIA IQ (Cineman Syndicate), appears daily in newspapers across the country and on the Internet.
Lisa is also a successful screenwriter. She earned a development deal with Adventuress Productions (affiliated with Paramount Pictures), and is also enthusiastically involved with commercial business/educational scriptwriting for clients such as Cambridge Educational/Cambridge Research Group (Films for the Arts and Humanities).
