W. L. Jenkins is is an advertising Creative Director/Writer who’s been in the business for over twenty years. Prior to his career in advertising he enjoyed an eight-year period as a professional actor on the West coast.

As an actor, W.L. was a company member of the wonderful Berkeley Repertory Theatre for four years (working with noted actors Joe Spano and Bob Hirschfeld), and also as a summer stock player at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA). He’s had other stage experience in numerous independent productions, as well, including an ill-fated production of Dracula where he fell off the stage on opening night. This, despite the fact that he’d studied with Jean Shelton and been trained at ACT San Francisco where he became skilled in stage sword fighting. In addition to playing small parts in film and television, he’s experienced the trauma of numerous commercial auditions in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. He holds Equity, SAG and AFTRA cards and continues to keep a hand in the biz as a Voice Over talent in L.A.

(Why does W.L. go by his first two initials? When he became eligible to join Equity, there was another guild member named William L. Jenkins – the same as his. There was a Will and Bill, too. So he chose W.L. Jenkins as his stage name. It stuck.)

As an advertising professional he’s either created or been involved in the production of over 100 TV commercials, which has allowed him to view thousands of auditions from the other side of the camera. Since 1984, W.L. has been creating ground-breaking commercials for a wide variety of high-profile, national clients including Carnation Hot Cocoa, Hills Bros. Coffee, Jack in the Box restaurants and Kenwood USA, to name a few. He’s been fortunate to work with outstanding directors like thirtysomething’s Peter Horton, David Anspaugh (Hoosiers) and Emmy Award winner Brian Gibson (The Josephine Baker Story), and talented actors such as Hector Elizondo. Along the way he’s received a number of ad industry awards including a Clio Finalist (TV), a Belding finalist, the International Broadcasting Award, Los Angeles Women in Advertising LuLu Awards (TV) and others. W.L. has worked for a number of large agencies, most notably the L.A. branch of Ogilvy, and, Cohen/Johnson – no longer in business, but for many years the busiest broadcast agency on the West coast. He’s the former co-owner and Creative Director of Radar Advertising, Inc., and currently runs his own creative consultant company called Generator.

W.L. is an expert skier and is in a constant battle to keep his golf handicap below 20. He loves L.A. because it provides him with the opportunity to experience film, theater and the performing arts close at hand. He lives in Sherman Oaks with his wife Cora Lea.
